What to expect from your injectables consultation

What to expect from your injectables consultation

New cosmetic injectables clients at Chrysalis receive a complementary 30-minute consultation before their first treatment. This can be booked as a stand-alone appointment if you’re just wanting to find out more about treatments, or immediately before a treatment time if you know you’re ready to proceed.

Here’s an idea of what you can expect at your complementary injectables consultation:

Why it’s important
During the consultation, our Injectables Nurse – either Joyce or Natalie – will be looking to understand what outcomes you’re hoping to achieve from treatment. Having time to discuss this properly ensures that they can find the right treatment option to get the results you want – and sometimes it’s not the one that our clients come in asking for! It’s also a chance for them to get to know you – aesthetics and skincare are influenced by a variety of lifestyle and health factors, so having a holistic understanding of our client is important.

What you might be asked
Our Injectables Nurse will ask what your specific concerns are and where you would like the treatment. They will also be interested in your overall health and skincare routine. Lifestyle factors such as skincare products, diet and exercise, and time spent in the sun can all affect your skin’s appearance and how concerns can be treated. They will take the time to examine your skin and its characteristics – such as elasticity and where your muscles form natural creases, to better understand how these concerns will evolve and which treatments might work.

Finding the best treatment for our clients
Our complementary consultations are obligation free – if you need more time consider it, or if you decide that the treatment isn’t for you, there is no pressure to continue or to book a future appointment. We are also always honest with clients about how to best address their concerns. This means that sometimes we’ll advise that injectables aren’t the right option.

Creating your treatment plan
Our Injectables Nurse will consider the best options for you and develop a treatment plan. This is then signed off by Dr Mark Vucak, our Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and clinic Director.

Above all, we try to create a relaxed, friendly environment so that you can get to know your Injector and make sure you’re comfortable before proceeding.

If you’re ready to find out whether cosmetic injectables are an option to treat your concerns, contact our clinic to book your complementary consultation with Joyce (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) or Natalie (Fridays).

Get to know our Injectables Nurse Joyce

Our wonderful Nurse Joyce works with Dr Mark Vucak to provide Chrysalis Medispa’s cosmetic injectables treatments. Here’s a little bit more about Joyce and her interest in cosmetic treatments…

Becoming a Registered Nurse
Joyce graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne in 2006 and went on to complete a graduate nurse program in Victoria. While working as a Nurse, she continued her studies with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Science, specialising in perioperative care (surgery). She first began working with Queensland Plastic Surgery’s Dr Mark Vucak over a decade ago as an operating theatre nurse at the Mater Private Hospital in Townsville. Joyce credits her nursing experience injecting local anaesthetic with helping her minimise discomfort when applying injectables treatments for our clients.

Passion for cosmetic treatments
Joyce’s interest in cosmetic treatments started when she worked with Dr Vucak in theatre, and she then joined the Queensland Plastic Surgery in 2014. She saw the positive impact that cosmetic procedures were having on patient’s lives and enjoyed being part of the team providing these aesthetic results, leading her to a more hands-on role in this process as an Injector. Above all, she loves seeing patients after their treatment, when they see themselves in the mirror and are thrilled with the results.

Training to be a Cosmetic Injector
In addition to her extensive nursing training, Joyce has attended several courses to become an Injectables Nurse, including her training with the Australian Skin Skill Education & Training. She also worked closely with experienced injectors to build her knowledge. She attends conferences and webinars regularly to keep up with the latest treatments and knowledge and continue developing her skills.

The science of injecting
Joyce’s mantra is that the right product, with the right amount at the right place on the right patient can gracefully improve a person’s look, boost his/her confidence, treat any unbalance features and rejuvenate their ageing skin. With her numerous nursing qualification, she loves understanding the science behind injectables treatments to achieve better results for her clients with the best product and treatment options for their goals and skin type.

Can we slow down signs of ageing?

Can we slow down signs of ageing?

Want to reduce the appearance of ageing is one of the biggest requests that our clients bring to us. From sagging skin to wrinkles and fine lines and dark spots, there are a range of changes in our appearance as we get older that we all wish would stay away. There are several treatments that can minimise these, but what if we could prevent them from appearing in the first place – or at least slow them down.Want to reduce the appearance of ageing is one of the biggest requests that our clients bring to us. From sagging skin to wrinkles and fine lines and dark spots, there are a range of changes in our appearance as we get older that we all wish would stay away. There are several treatments that can minimise these, but what if we could prevent them from appearing in the first place – or at least slow them down.
The signs of ageing are caused by natural factors, such as our genetics, but also by external ones, such as diet, sun exposure, and lifestyle. Fortunately, there are in-clinic treatments and skincare products that can help to slow down the impacts of ageing, but understanding what factors are causing it will help us tailor the treatment to you.
Here are a few common causes of ageing skin and how you can address each one:
Slow skin cell renewal As we get older, the speed at which our body regenerates new skin cells slows down. Chemical exfoliation – such as chemical peels – can speed up this cell turnover process. There are also topical (cream) treatments that can accelerate cell turnover and stimulate collagen production.
Dehydration With age, your skin produces less of its natural moisture, drying it out more quickly. That makes moisturising even more important the older you get. Not all moisturisers are the same – look for one that will replenish ceramides (the skin’s natural oils), cholesterol and fatty acids in your skin.
Stress When you’re stressed, your body releases a hormone called cortisol that elevates blood-sugar levels. Excess levels of sugar can damage the collagen proteins, which play a vital role in strengthening the skin and giving it elasticity and hydration. While we can’t make stress disappear, there are ways to try and reduce it, like prioritising time for relaxation, meditating, and going for a walk.
DietA diet that is low in fresh food and water and high in sugar and alcohol consumption can accelerate the skin’s ageing. High sugar diets accelerate the process of glycation, a process that damages the collagen in your skin. Drinking plenty of water and focussing your diet on fresh food and less sugar will help keep your skin healthy for longer. Sun exposure. UV light can damage the DNA of skin cells. Your body is able to repair some DNA damage, but extensive damage creates problems, including leading to skin cancer. The sun also affects the elastin and collagen in your skin, causing it to sag, stretch and develop wrinkles, and it creates ageing spots and blotchy patches. Sun damage may not show while you are young, but the damage will cause problems later in life. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure and always apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater, reapplying it every 2 hours or more if you are sweating or swimming.
